BioCharacter Information
Character: Katsuya Jonouchi
Age: 16
Series: Yu-Gi-Oh!
Personality: Jonouchi is typically hotheaded and can say some stupid things that get him into trouble. He usually puts on the tough guy attitude, though deep down he’s a sweetie. He cares for his friends, especially his best friend Yugi, and will do anything to help them. He has a younger sister, whom he is very overprotective over.
Brief Character History: Jonouchi lived happily with his younger sister Shizuka until their parents divorced and they were forced to separate. Shizuka lived with her mom while Jonouchi lived his abusive, alcoholic father. Since then he had lived a rough life, even going so far as to join a gang in middle school. He would get into fights often and was not well-liked. The only person that remotely understood him during these troubling times was Honda, his only friend.
But then he became friends with Mutou Yugi. Afterwards, he stopped being the bully that he was, allowing for people to see his true nature. He and Yugi grew to be close friends, and it was thanks to Yugi and his grandfather that he learned how to play Duel Monsters.
His first tournament was at Duelist Kingdom, run by Pegasus. One of the big prizes was three million dollars. During this time, Jonouchi’s sister was going blind and if he won the tournament, he would use the money to finance her surgery. Jonouchi makes it to the finals, but loses to Yugi. However, Yugi gives Jonouchi the money since he really needs it. Jonouchi then supports Yugi as he battles against Pegasus.
The next tournament he participates in is Battle City, run by Seto Kaiba. At first Jonouchi was not allowed to participate simply because Kaiba does not like him, but he managed to get in when Malik’s henchmen realize that Jonouchi held the rare Red-Eyes Black Dragon. When he loses his Red-Eyes prior to the start of the tournament, Yugi duels the one who took it and wins it back. Jounouchi then goes throughout the tournament and wins various new cards as he duels, this time with his sister even coming and supporting him. He makes it to the finals along with Yugi, Seto, and Malik, and was determined to defeat Malik after sending Mai into darkness. He loses against Malik and nearly died in the process, but he wakes up and supports Yugi in his battle against Malik.
Next came Dartz and his henchmen, whom were collecting human souls to revive their god. Jonouchi becomes a target by Varon and Mai, who joins them after being brainwashed. To battle this new threat, he is chosen to possess one of the three legendary dragons, Helmos. He then risks everything to try to rescue Mai, and even defeats Varon who in turn loses his soul. Mai, seeing this, then duels Jonouchi who had no time to recover from his previous duel. He loses against Mai and loses his soul, but was able to free her from their mind control in doing so. Yami, having lost his counterpart in a previous duel, then battles Dartz to save Jonouchi and the others.
Afterwards, Seto throws another tournament. Jonouchi doesn’t do so well in this one, losing against Seigfried in the second round. He then spends the rest of the time supporting Yugi as he wins yet another tournament.
Lastly, Jonouchi goes with everyone to experience the days that Yami reigned as Pharaoh of Egypt in hopes of helping him regain his lost memories.
Canon Powers: Jonouchi can fight and take care of himself in a fist fight. He also has his Duel Disk, which allows him to play Duel Monsters (since Battle City), and several times throughout the series the monsters take on real forms. When he’s dueling, his deck consists of mainly warrior type monsters and gambling cards. His most well-known card is the Red-Eyes Black Dragon. Other cards he uses often are Jinzo, Time Wizard, Angel Dice, Devil Dice, and Flame Swordsman. Here’s a list of cards he has according to his starter deck that you can buy, it’s pretty accurate to what he uses in the show.
Modified Powers (all character with the exception of the Organization have their powers restricted. Please choose which power you wish to keep.): He can still fist fight and I would like him to keep his Duel Disk, but only have Flame Swordsman available for summoning.
